RETINOL SERUM - 20ml

Use

> Use daily only at night (private use). To achieve maximum potency, apply a pea sized amount to clean and dry, healthy skin (face and neck). Massage gently until absorbed. Avoid contact with eyes and lips. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water. Wash your hands after use. Avoid use on sensitive skin.

> Continue with your Yellow Rose moisturizing product (serum/cream/mask) to enhance effectiveness and improve tolerance to Retinol.

> If you have never used Retinol products before, begin by using the product 2-3 times per week. Gradually increase frequency to every other night and finally once every night as tolerated. >In case of mild irritation (normal skin reaction to Retinol), discontinue use for 3-4 days to adjust the Retinol tolerance of the skin and apply Yellow Rose moisturizing and soothing products. Continue use every other night. If persistent irritation occurs, stop using the product.

> While using the product (and for a week after) always apply in the morning Yellow Rose Sun Care Cream SPF 30 or 50+. Avoid overexposure to the sun.

> While using the product avoid high or low temperatures (warm showers/baths, cold wind, heat etc.) as these conditions favor skin dryness and irritation.

> Do not use with other products containing Retinol. Avoid use during pregnancy / while nursing.

> Keep container tightly closed after use. Store in a cool place away from sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Characteristics

Contains Retinol 0.1%, Retinoid (Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate 0.1%), Hyaluronic acid (high molecular weight), marine Collagen and Elastin, Silanol with Vitamin C, Diacetyl boldine, Liposomes with Centella extract, Argan and Jojoba oils, White tea and Olive leaf extracts, Ceramides, Phytosphingosine, Vitamin E, Allantoin and Panthenol.

Retinol and Retinoids

Retinol is a form of Vitamin A. It Is one of the most effective actives that has been clinically studied and recognized to counter the undesired visible effects of skin ageing and most precisely photoageing (wrinkles, fine lines, loss of elasticity, imperfections, discoloration, uneven skin tone). Furthermore, Retinol helps address the concerns of oily and acne prone skin.

The effects of Retinol on the epidermis are:
- Accelerates cellular skin turnover (exfoliation from within)
- Stimulates fibroblasts to naturally synthesize Collagen and GAGs, such as Hyaluronic acid. Retinol actually stimulates the activity and increases the number of fibroblasts. Moreover, it offers protection against Collagen degradation by inhibiting the activity of metalloproteinases and collagenases.
- Re-organizes the elastin network thus improving skin elasticity. Photo-ageing leads to excess elastin being deposited in an unorganized and nonlinear fashion. This, in turn, leads to loss of elasticity and formation of wrinkles.
- Provides regular rearrangement of melanin in the epidermis and inhibits melanogenesis.
- Regulates sebum production by decreasing the activity of enzymes participating in lipogenesis and slows down the production of new sebocytes (cells that make up the sebaceous glands, and secrete sebum). Furthermore, due to its keratolytic action helps remove excess sebum and unclog pores.

The term “retinoid” refers to molecules that are derivatives of vitamin A or have structural and/or functional similarities to vitamin A. The retinoid family comprises of vitamin A (retinol), its natural derivatives (Retinaldehyde, Retinoic acid, retinyl esters i.e. Retinyl Palmitate) and a large number of synthetic derivatives.

Mechanism of action.

When Retinol comes in contact with the skin, enzymes convert it initially to Retinal and then to Retinoic acid. (2 step process). Retinoic acid then binds to special cellular receptors and exhibits its known biological activity: skin cellular turnover, Collagen and elastin production, improvement of skin tone and oily skin concerns.

When applied directly onto the epidermis, Retinoic acid is much more potent that Retinol. However, Retinol is significantly better tolerated by the epidermis. Therefore, Retinol is the molecule of choice as it offers a milder and gradual approach towards addressing photo-ageing concerns.

Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, unlike Retinol, binds directly with retinoid receptors and does not require a two-step conversion into Retinoic acid. It exhibits fast biological activity and potency but with much less irritation.
